Rich Liekweg is president and CEO of BJC HealthCare, one of the nation’s largest nonprofit, integrated health care delivery organizations with over $6 billion in net revenues and more than 32,000 employees serving the greater St. Louis, southern Illinois and mid-Missouri regions. BJC’s teaching hospitals, Barnes-Jewish Hospital and St. Louis Children’s Hospital, are affiliated with the internationally renowned Washington University School of Medicine.
Liekweg joined BJC HealthCare in 2009 as president of Barnes-Jewish Hospital and group president for BJC HealthCare. In 2015, Liekweg was promoted to executive vice president and subsequently president of BJC. He was named president and CEO in January 2018.
Before joining BJC, Liekweg served as CEO and associate vice chancellor for the University of California San Diego Medical Center from 2003-2009. Liekweg also spent more than 16 years at Duke University Health System, including serving as CEO of Duke’s Durham Regional Hospital.
He currently serves on the boards of several professional and community organizations, including Washington University, Missouri Hospital Association, Cortex, St. Louis Regional Health Commission, Greater St. Louis, Inc., BioSTL and Forest Park Forever.
Liekweg earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Virginia and master’s degrees in health services administration and business administration from the University of Michigan.
